Changing, replacing and exchanging a knee joint
The Arabic words “istibdal,” “taghyeer” and “tabdeel” are often used interchangeably for a first joint replacement. However, changing a joint “again” may refer to an operation on an existing artificial joint. Clarify whether the discussion concerns a first procedure or revision surgery.
What does “telbees” mean?
The informal expression can refer to covering worn joint surfaces with replacement components. Total knee replacement removes damaged cartilage surfaces and some underlying bone, then places new components with a medical plastic spacer. It does not replace the entire leg bones. Ask the surgeon to explain the word using a drawing. Do not assume that “telbees” means a partial operation or a smaller procedure than the one in your report. The useful information is which surfaces and components will be treated.

Partial replacement is a specific option
Partial replacement may suit selected people whose advanced arthritis is limited to one knee compartment. The surgeon also assesses the remaining joint, ligaments and movement. Revision concerns an existing implant

Tell the clinic about previous surgery when booking and bring the operation report if available. “I have an artificial knee and want this new problem assessed” explains your appointment goal more clearly than simply requesting a replacement.
Discuss technology and risks separately
If robotic-assisted knee replacement is proposed, first clarify the type of replacement and then ask about the technology's role in your plan. Discuss how progress will be assessed and what rehabilitation involves.
